There have been some changes made by recent legislation relating to employers exposure to EEOC claims.  In 2008, congress expanded the definition of disabilities under the Americans With Disabilities Act.  There is a broader definition of discrimination and they also lowered the burden of proof.  What does this mean to you the employer?  You need to get a policy that includes coverage for wrongful termination, definition of a contractor, domestic partners as insureds and third-party claims.  We at Darr Schackow Insurance, will do our best to find companies that will provide these coverages. 

Have you heard of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act?  It requires employers to inform employees and the local government 60 days before a plant closing or a mass layoff.  You may not have a company large enough to fall under this act, but, if you do, you need this coverage.

The 19th Annual Women’s Council of Realtors (WCR)Trade Show

The 19^th Annual Women’s Council of Realtors (WCR)Trade Show was held this past Thursday, October 22^nd, 2009 at the Best Western Gateway Grand Hotel.   This year’s event, “Under the Big Top” was a huge success! 45 area businesses participated by sponsoring booths, door prizes, raffle ticket prizes, and/or the happy hour cocktail party. Over 250 people attended this year’s event. The proceeds from this fund raiser  benefited the Santa Fe College Displaced Homemaker Program and The Girls Place.  

 

Darr Schackow Insurance participated in this year’s event by sponsoring a booth and sponsoring  the radio spots which aired on WKTK and The Sky radio stations.  John Darr stated, “We were delighted to help these two charities and be a part of this year’s event. We had 15 employees who participated and from all reports everyone had a great time. We look forward to helping again next year.”
